North Idaho Trifecta

Exploring the Slopes of Northern Idaho

Nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of northern Idaho, our region's ski resorts offer some of the best riding experiences in the Pacific Northwest. From the expansive terrain of Schweitzer Mountain Resort to the family-friendly slopes of Silver Mountain and the historical charm of Lookout Pass, there's something for every level of skier or snowboarder. I’m fortunate to have grown up skiing throughout Idaho and these are some of my favorite hills in the state.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort:

Schweitzer Mountain Resort, located near Sandpoint, Idaho, is the largest ski area in Idaho and Washington, boasting an impressive 2,900 acres of skiable terrain. With a summit elevation of 6,400 feet and a vertical drop of 2,400 feet, Schweitzer offers breathtaking views of Lake Pend Oreille and the surrounding mountain ranges. The resort features 92 named trails and open bowls, catering to skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Additionally, the village at Schweitzer provides a cozy, alpine atmosphere with lodging, dining, and shopping options for a perfect ski-in, ski-out experience.

Our perfect day includes a quick bite at The Outback, drinks at the Rowdy Grouse and hoping for blue sky days while skiing down the Great Divide.

Silver Mountain Resort:

Situated in Kellogg, Idaho, Silver Mountain Resort is a family favorite, known for its friendly atmosphere and diverse terrain. The resort offers over 1,600 acres across two mountains, served by seven lifts, including the world's longest single-stage gondola, which transports visitors from the base to the mountain top in 20 minutes. Silver Mountain's varied terrain includes gentle slopes for beginners, as well as more challenging runs and glades for experienced skiers. Beyond skiing, the resort is home to an indoor waterpark, making it an ideal destination for families looking to enjoy a mix of winter sports and aquatic fun.

Lookout Pass:

Lookout Pass Ski & Recreation Area, located right on the Idaho-Montana border along the historic I-90, is known for its friendly vibe and some of the best powder in the region. Celebrated for receiving an average of 400 inches of light, fluffy snow annually, Lookout Pass offers a fantastic skiing experience for all levels. With a mix of 34 named runs spread over 540 acres of terrain, the resort ensures short lift lines and uncrowded slopes, providing a more relaxed skiing experience. Lookout Pass also prides itself on its ski school, offering affordable lessons to encourage newcomers to the sport. The resort's rich history, dating back to its opening in 1935, adds to its charm, making it a beloved spot among locals and visitors alike.
